Our roots, our values,
and a vision for our future...
Kyle Yarber for our U.S. Representative!

"The real solutions to the problems we face in northern Missouri
will not come from the career politicians in Washington
or from the glass offices of corporate headquarters,
but rather they will come from us."

My name is Kyle Yarber, and I'm running for the U.S. House of Representatives.  Welcome to the official website of the campaign.

For every one person who has said that a teacher can’t hope to become a U.S. Representative nine others say that that’s exactly what we need – someone with a different kind of background, a different kind of life experience, a different vision to bring real representation to the working people of northern Missouri.

A dream of opportunity and self-determination brought my great, great, great grandparents to Missouri in the 1840s. However, this is a dream we’re being encouraged to abandon. We are told to not expect our children’s and grandchildren’s future to be like our parents’ and grandparents’ past. As my wife and I experience the birth of our first child, I’m not ready to accept that fate for my daughter.

My vision of northern Missouri’s future has been shaped by those who came before me. As the son of Missouri public school teachers, I know how education is our future. As the grandson of Missouri farmers, I know we must farm with both today and tomorrow in mind. As the nephew of three combat veterans of foreign wars, I know we must live up to the standard of sacrifice made by those before us. And as the great grandson of a preacher, I know our values must be reflected in our actions.

With these guiding principles, I believe Missouri should be an international leader in education, agriculture, and energy; a place where the population is growing, not shrinking; and a land we can again call one of opportunity and self-determination.

That is why I’m running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

The United States was established as and remains an experiment in self-government. However, as Thomas Jefferson argued, a representative democracy, in order to continue functioning properly, demands both an educated citizenry and their active participation.

Too often it seems we've left government to the professional politicians and their sponsors. If that is true, then we deserve what we've ended up with. But the Founders gave us regenerative powers. By being able to turn out representatives who don't work in our interest and replace them with ones who will (made possible by regular elections, their intended version of term limits), we can change the nature of the government, to make it, as was the goal of the Constitition, "more perfect," through diligence to the ideal which we know it should be.

It seems to me that we need a different sort of person to get involved, perhaps not the type who has typically been involved before, one both more connected and more capable of seeing the long range, big picture. It is that call to duty I've heard. It is in that spirit I offer to serve.

I encourage you explore the website, to ask questions, to leave comments, and, most importantly, to become actively and intellectually involved with the American experiment in self-government. Without your participation, our representative democracy withers and dies.

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,
Kyle Yarber
