With these guiding principles, I believe Missouri should be an international leader in education, agriculture, and energy; a place where the population is growing, not shrinking; and a land we can again call one of opportunity and self-determination.
That is why I’m running for the U.S. House of Representatives.
The United States was established as and remains an experiment in self-government. However, as Thomas Jefferson argued, a representative democracy, in order to continue functioning properly, demands both an educated citizenry and their active participation.
Too often it seems we've left government to the professional politicians and their sponsors. If that is true, then we deserve what we've ended up with. But the Founders gave us regenerative powers. By being able to turn out representatives who don't work in our interest and replace them with ones who will (made possible by regular elections, their intended version of term limits), we can change the nature of the government, to make it, as was the goal of the Constitition, "more perfect," through diligence to the ideal which we know it should be.
It seems to me that we need a different sort of person to get involved, perhaps not the type who has typically been involved before, one both more connected and more capable of seeing the long range, big picture. It is that call to duty I've heard. It is in that spirit I offer to serve.
I encourage you explore the website, to ask questions, to leave comments, and, most importantly, to become actively and intellectually involved with the American experiment in self-government. Without your participation, our representative democracy withers and dies.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Kyle Yarber
Candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives
Missouri's Sixth Congressional District
